Being a momma never gets easy; it just gets different.

Sure, surviving sleepless nights, enduring the terrible two’s tantrums, navigating the mouth and sass of teenagers, learning what to allow and when to say no …. it’s all hard.

And, many times it can be so good at the same time, appreciating each stage as they grow up!

But, golly, the last couple of weeks, a lot of mommas have been dominating my prayer lists more than usual.

I’ve prayed comfort over mommas who have lost children too soon and mommas who have lost mommas of their own.

I’ve prayed strength for mommas who are at their children’s sides as they fight for their lives and some who are fighting for their own lives for the sake of their children.

I’ve asked for guidance for mommas making big decisions and some living in a world of unknowns.

I’ve prayed peace over mommas who are dealing with children making choices that create worry, fear, sadness, and disappointment.

I’ve prayed care over mommas who are trying to momma their own mommas.

I’ve prayed relief over mommas suffering wounds we can’t see, exhaustion, depression, anxiety, and anger.

A few of my prayer requests have been for my own momma heart as well.

Because it’s never easy.

But I am also thrilled to have shared in some joyful occasions with some mommas as well.

Proud mommas watching their children achieve success and some even achieving accomplishments themselves.

Ecstatic mommas giving their children away in marriage, witnessing dreams come true.

New mommas experiencing all the emotions of a new baby and mommas who are fortunate to see their own babies become beautiful mommas.

Lots of us mommas …

We are them, we know them, we love them…

Some heartbroken, some feeling fortunate…

All treasuring special moments with loved ones, trusting in God’s word, and living in the love of Jesus.

Because we know.

We know we can feel joy and hurt at the same time.

We know we can carry burdens along with gratitude.

We know all the best laid plans will not guarantee perfection.

We know how to hide the ache behind the smile.

We know one step forward could eventually mean three steps back.

We know it’s not easy; it’s just different.

But, luckily, when we have faith in our Lord and Savior, we know so much more.

No matter what our momma heart feels today…

We know that He hears us when we cry. We know He delights in our smiles.

We know that we live in a broken world, but we also have hope that God is good.

We know that we can count on Jesus walking with us, holding us, leading us..in the valleys and toward the peaks.

We know that we can rest in His peace and that He is always faithful.

We know we are blessed…. Even if it’s never easy, just different.

I hope and pray that as Mother’s Day approaches this week, we can all come to know the perfect love of Jesus.  Even if we are in need of peace or comfort or healing.  Especially if we are forever grateful for His goodness.  We know. He knows.

Happy Mother’s Day!

“But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. Jeremiah 17:7 (NIV)
